It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, originally to help injured soldiers recover.

There are two main types:

  1. Mat Pilates – done on a mat using your body weight.

  2. Reformer Pilates – done on a special machine with springs and pulleys for resistance.

Benefits of Pilates:

  • Increases flexibility

  • Enhances body control and coordination

  • Helps prevent injury

  • Supports rehabilitation

It’s often recommended for all fitness levels, and many athletes, dancers, and even people with chronic pain use it to stay strong and mobile.
